What passions do you pursue outside of work?
I am an accomplished mountain and ice climber. I’ve summited Mt. Everest, Denali, and a number of other Himalayan and domestic peaks. Additionally, I have completed difficult waterfall ice climbs in Canada and Colorado. Photographs from my 2008 climb of Baruntse in Nepal were featured in an advertisement campaign for Mountain Hardwear®.
Currently, I enjoy taking my two children to the indoor rock-climbing gym in Nashville in hopes they will share in my passion for climbing and the outdoors.
Tell me about the types of clients you work with.
I have predominantly worked with individuals and families that either currently own or have previously owned a privately held business. My experiences in mergers and acquisitions and leveraged finance, combined with over a decade in the investment management industry, allow me to offer a unique perspective to these families.
Many of these clients are naturally involved with endowments and foundations and have enlisted me to deliver the same level of professional advice to these organizations that are so important to them and their families. I have also worked to provide investment solutions to a number of leading family offices in the country.
Which book had the most profound impact on you and why?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho has been one of my favorite books for many years. In the book, Coelho explores the notion of creating one’s own personal legend through the experiences of a young shepherd boy trying to find his place in the world. It’s an examination of what we are all capable of accomplishing if we have faith, take some risks, and are willing to work for our dreams.
Every client with whom I work shares this feeling of having attempted and accomplished something extraordinary through their wealth creation journey. While their stories are unique, their questions on how to make their wealth meaningful are common. I feel privileged that my clients would share their personal stories with me and trust me to help them make the most of their wealth for years to come.
