What’s the best way for people to put their wealth in perspective?
Wealth accumulation is a marathon, not a sprint. On the other hand, wealth preservation is directly tied to family planning, requiring thoughtful but confident decision-making. I advise clients to start with what’s essential to their own family and establish a value system. Investing is a careful blend of art and science and must be done with diligence, intentionality and by considering individuality. What’s right for you may be entirely wrong for someone else.
I’ve made it my mission to help my clients achieve their goals, enjoy life after work, and leave a legacy for their family and philanthropic endeavors. A flexible but deliberate plan includes so much more than your investments. Our work ensures that it considers your values, family engagement, education, wealth transfer—and fluctuations that will inevitably occur. Ideas can be singular and majestic, but execution begins the actual work. That is when proper advice becomes necessary.
What differentiates you from other advisors?
As a former engineer and self-proclaimed DIY’er, I solve complex problems by seeking the most efficient solutions. Answers vary from family to family, and there is no one-size-fits-all for people. Our industry is full of advisors who push their products without appropriate due diligence. I see this as mere “table stakes” and have made it my mission to understand my clients on a nuanced level. We start with the why, and the route to meet their goals takes shape from there.
With fluid markets and ever-changing legislation proposed, I remain well versed in all areas of the financial universe, which is imperative to delivering timely, relevant advice. My ability to think deeply about my client’s situation, present several solution options and thoughtfully discuss the pros and cons brings comfort around making (and sticking with) decisions. I strive to put my client’s minds at ease, and I hope that every interaction is time they find well spent.
What passions do you pursue outside of work?
I am a husband and father of two young children, a girl, and a boy. We are a family that loves the outdoors and will take any chance possible to enjoy all that nature offers. Routine warm-weather activities include frequent trips to the beach to play in the ocean and camping trips to rest underneath the trees.
I still find ample time to pursue my passions, particularly action sports that drive adrenaline. These include surfing, snowboarding, motorcycle riding, volleyball, and golf. I like to think these sports offer me the following:
Surfing—endurance and stability;
Snowboarding—freedom, and obstacles;
Motorcycling—speed and reflexes;
Golf—precision and consistency.
