NEW YORK, June 17, 2024—Bernstein Private Wealth Management (Bernstein), a unit of AllianceBernstein L.P. (NYSE: AB), today announced the appointment of Katie Gardner as Director, Institute for Trust and Estate Planning.
Bernstein’s Institute for Trust and Estate Planning helps individuals and families implement complex tax and wealth transfer planning strategies. The team provides actionable advice for clients as it relates to planning for lifetime spending, wealth transfer, philanthropy and the investment implementation of these plans.
Gardner’s appointment coincides with the company’s ongoing efforts to be best positioned to support the changing face of wealth, the fastest-growing wealth markets in the United States, and emerging geographies of their ultrahigh-net-worth (UHNW) clients.
“As we expand our research team and UHNW platform, Katie is a fantastic addition to our growing practice in the Bay Area,” said Tara Popernik, Senior National Director of UHNW Services at Bernstein. “She will play a pivotal role in helping our clients plan for and live with their wealth in the face of a changing estate planning landscape.”
Gardner, who brings over eight years of experience to the role, previously practiced as an estate planning attorney for six years at Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP and Loeb & Loeb LLP, with a specialty in domestic planning. She attended Stanford University and Stanford Law School.
In addition to her day-to-day responsibilities, Gardner will be regularly publishing and presenting estate planning research—her latest research covers how individuals can utilize installment sales in high-interest-rate environments.
“I am honored to add to Bernstein’s deep research capabilities,” said Gardner. “The industry recognizes Bernstein as a leader in wealth planning, and I’m excited to work with our clients as they navigate the complexities that come with having significant wealth.”
Bernstein’s San Francisco office has served the Bay Area for over 17 years and is led by Managing Directors Steve Schilling and Michele Walker.
