What inspired you to join Bernstein?
My top reason for joining the Bernstein team was its best-in-class research. I've long admired the fundamental insights, intellectual honesty, and rigorous research generated by our analysts. They set the industry gold standard. I know that much more about the economy, the markets, and the world because of them. When the opportunity to join Bernstein arose, I was so excited to enter their ranks. While I knew my peers would push me to grow as an analyst and strategist, I didn’t expect how personable everyone would be until I arrived. My colleagues thoroughly enjoy sharing their knowledge, which means I have the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest and kindest people you’ll ever meet. Between their detailed views and my team’s independent research, we’re able to map the trends clients should focus on to position themselves for the future.
How has your personal background uniquely positioned you to work with your clients?
My background allows me to absorb and integrate diverse viewpoints. I was raised in Wisconsin, half in the city and half in the woods. Being surrounded by so many different people and views early on taught me the power of adopting a wide variety of perspectives. In adulthood, my education and career took me across the US and the world. I’ve faced the markets head-on as an equity trader, found investment opportunities in special situations, hunted for long-term value in public and private markets, shaped strategies for a biotech startup, and evaluated allocations across different asset classes and geographies. This depth and breadth of experience equips me with a toolkit of fundamental, macroeconomic, thematic, and quantitative approaches that are instrumental in improving clients’ portfolios and educating them on the markets. I also enjoy people and analysis equally. Applying our knowledge to address clients’ concerns and help with unexpected questions makes my work even more engaging.
What passions do you pursue outside of work?
I love to travel and explore. The experiences, the people, the scenery, and the local cultures make it so rewarding. To unwind, I like to run and bike. Also, despite my complete lack of natural musical talent, I enjoy playing the guitar. I picked it up during the pandemic to stay occupied, and it just keeps getting more fun with time. As you can tell, I love learning in all forms, which is why you’ll usually find that I’m in the middle of some book or another. I’m always searching for new perspectives, whether on the topics of the day or old controversies.
